Matching funds from third countries

Project partners from industrialised countries and emerging economies usually have to cover their own participation costs in Horizon 2020. Only exceptionally, they receive EU contributions, for instance if they are regarded of essential importance for the success of the project. Several countries have created mechanisms to fund their participation on Horizon 2020 actions or are in the process of doing so, for instance Mexico, Russia and Japan. Supported are mainly coordinated calls of the EU with a specific third country and, in general, in programme areas of particular importance. As orientation serve the Commission factsheets on available local support from non-EU countries for Horizon 2020 country by country: http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/docs/h2020-funding-guide/cross-cutting-issues/international-cooperation_en.htm#countries
